Workshops & Retreats

All of our Workshops, Trainings, and Retreats are designed with the following core principals in mind:

Learning and Creativity - We do not host seminars or lectures, but rather offer courses that allow for intercultural exchange, creative collaboration, and experiential learning.

Communal and Personal Relationship with Nature - We believe that if we are to successfully generate and promote methods of sustainable living then we must actually spend time in nature.  Most of us go through our days locked in cities, cars, and apartments physically divorced from the world we wish to protect.  Therefore all of Selva Rica’s projects invite participants to experience nature as we deepen our understanding of the world we wish to live in.

Food and Health - The way we consume and use our energy is a key component to developing positive relationships with our planet and local communities. Learning about where our food comes from, experiencing delicious organic nutrition, and incorporating healthy habits into our daily life is an essential part of every Selva Rica Project.

at Finca Aiko

Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica

Nov 4 - 18th, 2012

Have you ever wanted to just get away from it all, disconnecting your cell phone and computer so that you can reconnect with nature, friends, and yourself?  Join us for a magical two weeks in the tropical rainforest of Costa Rica’s Talamanca mountains, just a 40 minute drive from the famous caribbean beach town of Puerto Viejo.  We will swim in lush waterfalls, practice yoga on the caribbean shore, prepare delicious organic cuisine, harvest tropical fruits from a permaculture garden, paint in the virgin rainforest, and then we’ll make music and dance all night!  We invite you to make new friends and experience the adventure of a lifetime while living completely off the grid at the Aiko Sustainable Farm.  Click here for more information.

With Oleg Kheyfets at the Byrdcliffe Arts Colony

Woodstock, NY

Full Session: July 6 - 27th, 2012

Weekend Drop-in: July 14- 15th, 2012

Join us for 3 weeks of fun with filmmaking in the woods for screen actors! Actors will participate in trainings, theory, and rehearsal sessions working on scenes from European and American dramas while living in nature on a 250 acre wooded wilderness in the Catskills Mountains in upstate NY. Our actor-training is based on the techniques of Stanislavski, Michael Checkov, and Vakhtangov where participants will learn how to engage their skills for the camera.  We will take our inspiration from nature to create a professionally shot short film drawing on your training.  Participants will not only learn how to act for the camera, but will benefit from their immersion in this wooded paradise to develop a deeper appreciation for our environment.  And the best part is we will be living at the historic and gorgeous Byrdcliffe Arts Colony sprawling over 250 acres of pristine Catskills State Park just 2 hours from New York City. Have you ever wanted to get an important message across to hundreds of thousands of viewers with a film?  We have the tools, all we need is time, space, and collaboration to generate meaningful media that changes our world for the better. Join us for three weeks in the gorgeous catskills state park as we immerse ourselves in an intensive filmmaking experience. Working along side professional talent from all over the world, we will create provocative social media about our environment.  Whether you are a writer, actor, photographer, or social activist, your talents and interests will be vital to this collaboration. Within a very short period of time we will produce media that illuminates real solutions to our environmental problems. Our goal is simple; make media that tells people what they need to know about protecting our planet and then show them how to do it with fun creative storytelling.
